Grandpa Dimitrios' favorite dish is a must: Fakés (pronounced fatjès). This Greek lentil soup is very healthy and rich in nutrients, but above all: incredibly tasty! Moreover, the recipe is easy to make. In Greece, Fakés is a true classic.
Ingredients
- 250 grams Black Lentils
- 1 medium onion (chopped)
- 1 clove Garlic (sliced)
- 1-2 Bay leaf(s)
- 150 ml Olive oil
- 125 ml Sieved Tomato Sauce
- Salt and pepper
Optional if desired: extra garlic, onion powder, a tablespoon of vinegar and turmeric powder.
Preparation method
- Boil the lentils for 10 minutes and drain the water and set the lentils aside.
- Add the 100 ml of olive oil to the pan, heat and add the chopped onions and sliced garlic.
- When ready, add the lentils and 0.5 liters of water to the pan, including the desired spices. Salt and pepper and the bay leaves should be added. Then cook for 30 minutes on medium heat.
- After 30 minutes add the extra 50 ml olive oil and the tomato juice. Then cook for another 10-20 minutes, until the soup thickens.
- Add a tablespoon of vinegar at the end and the lentil soup is ready.
